Owners of crude oil, product and chemical tankers, as well as floating production systems, continue to focus on fuel efficiency as a means to saving costs. However, operators tend to overlook the potential fuel savings that can be realized by adjusting inert gas capacity to match the actual capacity required during offloading. Instead, inert gas generators are widely used at fixed capacities, which generally correspond to the maximum pump capacity of the vessel or approximately 60% to 75% of the maximum inert gas generator capacity.
